Terms of Service

Last updated: October 1, 2026

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Phosphor application ("the app") and related services. By downloading, installing, or using Phosphor, you agree to these Terms.

01

Service Description

Phosphor provides system-wide URL filtering for iOS using Apple's NEURLFilterManager API. The service filters URLs across Safari and other apps to block ads, trackers, malware, and unwanted content using on-device Bloom filters and encrypted Private Information Retrieval (PIR) queries.

02

Subscription

  • Phosphor requires an active subscription to enable URL filtering.
  • Subscriptions are available on a yearly ($12.99/year) or monthly ($1.99/month) basis. Prices may vary by country and are shown in the app before purchase.
  • New subscribers receive a 7-day free trial. You will not be charged during the trial period. If notifications are allowed, Phosphor reminds you 2 days before the trial ends.
  • Subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the renewal date.
  • Payment is charged to your Apple ID account when the free trial ends, or at confirmation of purchase if you are not eligible for a trial.
  • If your subscription or trial ends, URL filtering is paused until you subscribe again. Phosphor tells you when this happens.
  • You can manage or cancel your subscription in Settings > [Your Name] > Subscriptions on your device.
03

Free Features

Without a subscription, you can:

  • Browse and manage filter lists
  • View the app's privacy documentation
  • Complete the onboarding flow

URL filtering (blocking ads, trackers, malware, and adult content) requires an active subscription.

04

No Guarantee of Filtering

While Phosphor aims to block known unwanted URLs, we do not guarantee that all ads, trackers, malware, or unwanted content will be blocked. URL filtering depends on:

  • The completeness and accuracy of the filter lists
  • The availability of the PIR server
  • Apple's OHTTP relay availability
  • iOS system behavior and limitations

Phosphor is not a replacement for antivirus software, a VPN, or safe browsing practices.

05

Service Availability

We strive to maintain high availability of the PIR server and related infrastructure. However, the service may be temporarily unavailable due to maintenance, updates, or factors beyond our control. When the PIR server is unavailable, the on-device Bloom filter continues to function, and URLs that don't match the Bloom filter are allowed through (fail-open behavior).

06

Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the app
  • Attempt to bypass the subscription requirement
  • Use the app for any illegal purpose
  • Interfere with or disrupt the PIR server or related services
07

Intellectual Property

Phosphor is open source under the MIT License. The source code is available at github.com/victorantos/Phosphor. The Phosphor name and branding are proprietary.

08

Disclaimer of Warranties

THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE APP WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR THAT ALL URLS WILL BE CORRECTLY FILTERED.

09

10
